Israel, Iran, and America: What Did Jesus Say About Wars Like This?
Pastor Armando Palazzo
In moments of global tension, when headlines are filled with conflict between nations like Israel, Iran, and the United States, many people begin asking deeper questions about the future. Fear, speculation, and endless news cycles can easily unsettle our hearts. Yet long before modern geopolitics, Jesus spoke directly about times like these. In Matthew 24, He warned that wars and rumors of wars would occur, but He also commanded His followers not to be alarmed. This reflection examines what Jesus actually said about conflict, deception, and the end times, and how believers can navigate turbulent global events with steady faith rather than fear.
The Feeling Beneath the Headlines
Have you noticed how different the world feels this week?
Not just the headlines.
Not just the conflict.
But the feeling underneath it.
You wake up. You check your phone.
“Iran… Israel… America”
“Missiles... Alliances... Warnings…”
Even if you don’t say it out loud, something inside whispers:
“Is this it?”
“Is this the war that spreads?”
“Is this the moment everything tips?”
“Is this the beginning of the end?”
It’s not just the world that feels shaky. For many people:
Their peace feels thinner.
Their confidence feels fragile.
Their sense of control feels exposed.
This is exactly why Matthew 24 matters.
Jesus spoke these words in a time that was also:
Politically volatile
Full of rumors of war
Surrounded by a collapsing culture
He said something shocking:
Matthew 24:4–8 (NIV)
“Watch out that no one deceives you.
For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many.
You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed.
Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.
Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.
All these are the beginning of birth pains.”
The world may shake, but Jesus says, “His people do not have to”.
The Real Danger
There are two threats present in times like these:
External threat: War
Internal threat: Deception
When tensions rise, people ask:
“Should I stay glued to the news?”
“Should I scroll social media constantly?”
“Should I search global media outlets to see what others are saying?”
“Should I choose a side and rally behind it?”
“Why are these temptations so strong?”
Because deep inside we are searching for:
Safety
Peace
Hope for the future
We ask:
“Are we safe?”
“Is this the end?”
“Should we be afraid?
But Jesus gives a direct command. He says, “Do not be shaken.”
He predicted the emotional environment we would live in—an atmosphere filled with constant breaking news.
Matthew 24:6 (NIV)
“You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.”
Embedded in these words are four powerful truths:
God is sovereign.
Our hope is in Him.
History still has purpose.
Renewal is promised.
What this does not mean:
War does not mean God lost control.
Conflict does not equal immediate apocalypse.
Turmoil is not a sign of divine panic.
The presence of war is not proof of God’s absence. It is proof that Jesus told the truth. And the command remains powerful:
“See that you are not alarmed.”
This is not denial. It is anchored faith. If Jesus already told us these things would happen, then nothing happening right now surprises heaven.
The Rise of False Prophets
Whenever global crises appear, voices suddenly emerge claiming prophetic insight. Jesus predicted this!
Matthew 24:5,11 (NIV)
“For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many…
Many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.”
False prophets often claim:
Special knowledge
Exact times and dates
Interpretations that misread the moment
Authority based on fear
They subtly replace Scripture with spectacle.
Their message becomes:
“What did I see?”
“What was I shown?”
“What secret knowledge do I have?”
But Scripture warns clearly:
Revelation 22:18–19 (NIV)
“If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll…
If anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life.”
Jeremiah 23:16 (NIV)
“Do not listen to what the prophets are prophesying to you; they fill you with false hopes.
2 Timothy 3:13 (NIV)
“While evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.” They speak visions from their own minds, not from the mouth of the Lord.”
Concluding Remarks
In times when nations tremble, and headlines grow louder, the words of Jesus remain steady and clear. He did not call His followers to panic, speculate, or obsess over every geopolitical development. Instead, He called them to vigilance, faithfulness, and endurance. Wars and rumors of wars may shake the world, but they do not shake the sovereignty of God. The challenge for believers is not to decode every headline, but to remain rooted in Scripture, guarded against deception, and faithful to the mission of the Gospel.
When the world grows anxious, Christians are called to stand firm, trusting that history is still unfolding under the authority of Christ, whose words endure even when nations rise and fall
